7. Choose a smaller brush for the edges to get more precise.
8. When you are done, click on the "Edit in Standard Mode" button.
9. You should now see your painted mask area as a selection. However this is selecting the background and we want to select the person or object, so we need to inverse the selection.
10. Pick Select > Inverse from the main menu.
11. The selection will now be reversed so that the selection area is that of the person or object, not the background.
12. Now we can hit CTRL+C to copy the selection.
13. To paste the copied selection to another photo, open your other photo background into photoshop. I got this background image from
http://www.sxc.hu/ where they have royalty free photos free for anyone's use (great site!).
14. With the new photograph selected, hit CTRL+V to paste the selection on to the other photograph.
15. For the purpose of this tutorial, you're done!
If you wish to make the person blend with the new photo background, you can tweak the value settings for the layers by going to Image > Adjustments from the main menu. Adjust the color/brightness, color balance, and hue/saturation to get the photos to merge perfectly.
You can also create another layer inbetween the person and the background, call it "Shadow" and give the person a shadow so that they appear to be in the new background.
